The SSTA will be hosting a series of “How to Survive” webinars this year to aid and support probationers in their first full year as a teacher. The first year of teaching is a daunting experience and we know that having an opportunity in a ‘safe’ environment to hear and ask about issues that are not always explained in schools is invaluable. The first webinar on Wednesday 4 September at 5.30pm has been titled ‘How to Survive Probation’ and we are looking to briefly cover some of the items probationers have told us are ‘most’ pressing for the start of the probationer journey.
The ‘How to Survive Probation’ webinar will be covering:
- Probation vs flexible route – the pros and cons of each and making sure you are making the right decision
- Class sizes
- SEN overview – know your students and how your school shares that information
- Working Time Agreement/School calendar – this is your contract
- McCrone time – what it means and how to use it
- Classroom management – getting it right from the start
- Workload – what you can and can’t do, and you can say no.
- General advice and Q&A
To reserve a place on the webinar on Wednesday 4 September at 5.30pm, please complete the registration form
Future webinars will be sent to you during the year and please feel free to share with other probationer colleagues.
Looking forward to seeing you next week.
Best Wishes
