When a rep is accompanying a member or colleague that member can expect the rep:

1. To give moral support - so member or colleague does not feel alone
2. To act as a witness to what is being said.  
3. To seek clarification if what is being said is unclear.  
4. To help ensure that the meeting only deals with the agenda items.

The rep is not representing the member or colleague and therefore cannot speak on his/her behalf
