On Wednesday 9 September, we sent all SSTA members the below email about our new campaign: It’s Not Workload. It’s Stress.
Support our charter by joining our WhatsApp channel.

Today, we launch our new campaign, and it starts with what you told us.
Our survey showed that tracking, monitoring, QS assignments and coursework are driving work-related stress. And the biggest thing you said would make a difference? Time.
This isn’t about asking teachers to work harder or cope better with an unsustainable job.
It’s about changing the job.
On 17 September, I will present our Charter to the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Culture and Gaelic. We are demanding:
- Protected time to implement the Curriculum Improvement Cycle
- Lead Teacher posts in every secondary school and subject area
- Workload Impact Assessments for all new initiatives
- A pause on further change while the CIC is rolled out
- Mental Health First Aiders in every secondary school
- We’ve asked for a formal response by 16 November.
But the Charter is just the beginning.
We need you behind it.
We’ll be asking members to back the Charter, sign up to support our demands and get involved in local action.
Our new SSTA WhatsApp channel will be the first place to get the Charter, petition and campaign updates.
