Emergency Motion

"This Association condemns the decision to cut the pay of supply teachers by up to 46%, believing that they play a vital role in sustaining a high level of teaching and learning for our pupils in the event of a teacher's absence. The Association will continue to fight this injustice with all means at our disposal."

This Association believes that the way to achieve this aim is to invest in the teaching profession and its development not through the erosion of teachers' conditions of service, the casualisation of the teacher workforce, or the devolving of further staffing matters to headteachers.

Congress totally rejects any proposals to save money by means of changes to teachers conditions of service believing that these will detrimental to the education of young people."
