1. COUNCIL 3 MARCH 2007

Council met on Saturday 3 March 2007 and noted the following:

After scrutiny and election, the Office-Bearers for 2007-2009 and 2007-2011 (as appropriate) are the following:

Ann Ballinger will be President of the Association for the period 2007-2009;

Alan Taylor will be the Minutes Secretary for the period 2007-2011;

Norman Geekie will be General Treasurer for the period 2007-2011;

The ballot results for the election of Vice-President were:

Peter Wright will be Vice-President of the Association for the period 2007-2009. The Association will, on request, supply any member with a copy of the report free of charge.

2. Council heard reports on the Curriculum for Excellence and the McCrone Implementation Process.

2. LAWLINE

Members are reminded of the Association's free legal advisory service Lawline. SSTA provides members with a free and confidential legal advice through the firm Morton Fraser Solicitors by telephone or e-mail. The service provides advice on ANY legal matter, with the sole exception of matters relating to the professional life of a teacher (which should be sent directly to the General Secretary). The service has been of great benefit to the many members who have used it. 3. PRE-RETIREMENT COURSES 2007

The two pre-retirement courses currently arranged are now fully subscribed. In order to ascertain the desirability of holding a third course during this session, members who have not yet been given a place on either of the currently arranged courses and who would wish to attend a possible third course, are asked to contact the SSTA offices to state their interest. It would be useful if members could indicate which of the following possible venues would be suitable. Edinburgh Aberdeen Glasgow PerthThe date would be different from those already selected (24 March and 21 April) but probably one of the following: 19 or 26 May, or 9 or 16 June.

5. STATEMENT IN ACCORDANCE WITH S 32A 6(A) OF THE ACT

“ A member who is concerned that some irregularity may be occurring, or have occurred, in the conduct of the financial affairs of the union may take steps with a view to investigating further, obtaining clarification and, if necessary, securing regularisation of that conduct.The member may raise any such concern with such one or more of the following as it seems appropriate to raise it with: the officials of the union, the trustees of the property of the union, the auditor or auditors of the union, the Certification Officer (who is an independent officer appointed by the Secretary of State) and the police. Where a member believes that the financial affairs of the union have been or are being conducted in breach of the law or in breach of the rules of the union and contemplates bringing civil proceedings against it the union or responsible officials or trustees, he should consider obtaining independent legal advice.
